A native of Lloydminster, Lucella MacLean-Ross was one of the original South Bend Blue Sox of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, as made famous by the Tom Hanks and Gina Davis movie "A League of Their Own".
Known to her teammates, friends, and family as Lu; she had an amazing 10 year career which saw her play for the Edmonton Army and Navy Pats, the Admiral Music Maids, Chicago Chicks, Chicago Bluebirds, Parichy Bloomer Girls, and Rockola Chicks.
In recognition of her amazing career, Lu and her various teams have been inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame, the Alberta Hall of Fame, the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame as well as the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, NY.
Lu was a great supporter of softball. All those who met her were indelibly inspired by her achievements and touched by her passion and elegance.
So that future generations may benefit from Lu's story and example, GPLS is honoured to award the MacLean-Ross Cup to its league champions at the conclusion of each season.
